Only 4% of Security Teams Are Sitting Out AI—Is Your SOC Ready?

Only 4% of security teams have no plans for AI. If you're testing, is your SOC actually ready? Here's a simple maturity check before you deploy AI agents.
Forty percent of security teams now use AI every day. Another 56% are testing it. And just 4% have no plans to adopt it at all. Those numbers come from Prophet Security's State of AI in Security Operations 2026 survey of more than 250 CISOs, SOC leaders, and practitioners.
So if you're in that testing group, the real question isn't whether AI belongs in your SOC. It's whether your SOC is actually ready for it.
### What "Ready" Really Means
AI SOC readiness has two parts. The first is technical: can your tools talk to each other? The second is human: does your team know what to do when an AI agent flags something at 2 a.m.?
Most teams focus on the first part and skip the second. That's a mistake.
> "AI won't fix a broken process—it'll just help you break it faster."
### The Technical Side: Plumbing Matters
Before you deploy AI agents, make sure your data flows cleanly. That means:
- Logs from endpoints, cloud, and identity tools all land in one place.
- Alerts are deduplicated so the AI isn't learning from noise.
- Playbooks are documented—not just in someone's head.
If any of those are missing, pause. You're not ready yet.
### The Human Side: Trust but Verify
Your analysts need to know when to trust the AI and when to override it. That takes practice. Run tabletop exercises where the AI makes a call and your team has to justify agreeing or disagreeing.
One CISO I spoke with said their turning point was when an AI agent caught a lateral movement attack that three human analysts had missed. But they only trusted it because they'd tested it for months.
### A Simple Maturity Check
Ask yourself these questions:
- Do we have a single source of truth for alerts?
- Can we explain why an AI agent took an action?
- Have we trained the team on AI-assisted triage?
- Do we have a rollback plan if the AI goes sideways?
If you answered "no" to more than one, you've got work to do before deployment.
### The Bottom Line
AI in the SOC isn't a plug-and-play upgrade. It's a shift in how your team works. The 40% who use it daily didn't get there overnight—they built the foundation first.
So before you deploy, take a hard look at your own readiness. Your SOC will thank you.
